Here is the king of Broceliande forest, a large beech surrounded by pine trees, in a remote place of the “high forest”.

The name of Ponthus come from a 5th century knight who came from Galicia to Brittany. Big stones around the tree witness of the presence of a castle, destroyed during 13th century breton succession war.

Le nom viendrait d’un chevalier galicien, débarqué en Bretagne au Vème siècle, selon un roman du XIVème siècle. Le château bâti à cet endroit aurait été détruit par Du Guesclin. De gros blocs de pierres autour du hêtre en témoignent encore.
